🎓 Welcome to Level 2: Applied Human Factors
Translate your foundation knowledge into practical operational skills.
Applied Understanding
Translate awareness into action. Develop practical skills for applying human factors principles in real operational situations — from bridge resource management to emergency response.
From Knowledge to Practical Application
Building on the foundation established in Level 1, this course develops the practical skills needed to apply human factors principles in day-to-day maritime operations. Through realistic scenario-based exercises, you will practise decision-making under pressure, structured communication, and effective team coordination.
Level 2 bridges the gap between understanding human factors and actively managing them — equipping watchkeepers, supervisors, and operational staff with tools they can use immediately onboard or ashore.
What You'll Learn
Built for Operational Roles
Level 2 is designed for supervisors, watchkeepers, and team leaders who have completed Level 1 and are ready to apply human factors thinking in their daily operations. Ideal for those responsible for managing teams, conducting handovers, and making time-critical decisions.
Progressing Through Level 2
You've built the foundation — now apply it in practice.
Scenario-Based Learning
Level 2 uses realistic maritime scenarios drawn from actual incident analyses. Each exercise is designed to develop practical skills that transfer directly to operational situations. Exercises are aligned with STCW competence requirements and TMSA Element 14 guidance.
